Before attempting this install, be sure to read through these instructions fully before hand. Be careful with hot wires, remove all in line fuses before connecting to vehicle wires and keep the vehicle fuse blowing to a minimal

Needed:
*Avital AviStart 4113

	*PKFM Ford Transponder Override

Begin by removing the panel under the steering wheel as well as the bottom plastic panel covering the steering column.

Now you can get into the ignition harness which unplugs for easy access.

PKFM Transponder override install

On the supplied 10 pin wire harness, only half of the wires will be used.

For the wire connections in the install i used a wire stripper to crimp about a 1/4 inch gap in the wire, then used a razor blade to carve away one side of the wire insulation and then remove it so that a clean exposed wire is present. I then twist the alien wire onto that location tightly and solder. Ending the process with a few layers of electrical tape.

PATS module________________________PKFM Wire Color

Blue/Brown______(Pin 1)Ignition______Orange
Black____________(Pin 2)Ground_______Black
Purple/Green____(Pin 3)TX___________Green
Yellow___________(Pin 4)RX___________Pink

(Brown is used only with Remote starters without a 4 pin D2D port)

I used the location of the ground which is black, to locate all the other wire. If there is a single wire on the side of the ground, it is the PATS ignition wire and so the wire on the opposite side closest to Ground is the TX wire.

the Red wire constant for the PKFM is connected elsewhere, i tied mine into the constant feeding the remote start for ease.

Avital heavy gauge harness

With the Ignition harness unplugged the heavy gauge wires are easy to connect.

Avital Avistart 4113_____________________2009 Ford F150

Pink_____________Ignition________________White/Orange
Purple___________Starter_________________Blue/White
Orange__________Accessory______________Purple/Green
Red_____________12v Constant___________Red

I connected the two 12v constant wires in the driver side kick panel, to the heaviest gauge i could find to make sure the Avistart would have plenty of juice.

Avital 10 pin harness

of these 10 wires, we will use only 3 of them. We are interested in Horn output, ground, and parking light output (+)

There is a wiring harness in the steering column above and to the left of the ignition harness. This harness is similar in size and contains more wires. This is where we will pick up the horn ground

The Blue/White wire is the horn attach the brown wire (horn output -) from the 10 pin harness. Tape this up and plug back in.

I dont have a picture for some reason, but there is a group of ground wires underneath the dash toward the driver door, I spliced into one of these wires to get a good ground and soldered.

Now for the parking lights, this wire can be picked up in the passenger kick panel. It is Purple/White. Connect the White fused wire to the Purple/White. I had to run an extension wire in order to reach the passenger side.

Avital 4113 comes with a 4 pin wire harness, blue orange purple pink wires, this is not needed on this install

Door locks are optional, I chose not to install because I would have more control with the factory key FOB and with the door keyless entry keypad.

Remote Start 5 pin Harness

Of the 5 wires, we will use 3. Brake switch shutdown, Tachometer input, and the Hood pin shutdown wire.

The Brake switch is located above the brake pedal, it contains 4 wires and we need the Purple/White. This wire is a (+) and will send 12v to the brain when pushed which will shutdown remote start as a theft protection. Connect the Brown wire to the Purple/White wire.

The Tachometer signal is picked up at the fuel injectors. The wire from the Remote Start 5 pin Harness is Violet/White. At this time find the Hood pin shutdown wire which the both are longer than the other wires. The hood pin wire is Grey. Take both wires and feed them through the firewall. There is a rubber stopper about 3- 4 inches in diameter under the dash which is perfect to pop out and run the 2 wires through

The Tach wire at any fuel injector is Green. Find a nice way to run the Violet/White wire, so it doesn’t melt, to the closest fuel injector and tap in, solder and insulate.

The Hood pin is a very important safety feature which is a comforting reassurance when you or your mechanic is working under the hood. The pin is easy to install, just make sure you drill it in the metal so there is a ground signal. The hood pin wire attaches nicely with the supplied adapter. Be sure to oil the Hood pin somehow now and in the future for long term successful use. (PICTURES COMING)

Lastly, you will want the antenna in a high clear location. I chose right behind the rear view mirror, so I removed the driver side A pillar cover and ran the antenna wire behind it and tucked it under the roof liner. Clean the spot well with isopropanol and stick that dude on. (PICTURES COMING)

You should now have a mess of wires and with the in line fuses out of there sockets, you may now connect the Avital brain to the satellite harnesses. Also connect the Program Switch. Once connected insert fuses and time to test.

Start the vehicle with the factory key and within 5 seconds after the engine fires press and hold the program switch until the LED on the brain lights and stays solid. Now you may shut the vehicle off and test the remote start. Leave the key in the ignition in the off position. Take the Avital 4113 one button remote and push on time. listen for the unit to begin clicking its relays. The ignition should turn on and the power come on inside and the engine should start. Congrats.

If this works, your Avital 4113 (or whatever you are using) Remote Start install is complete.

The PKFM transponder comes with a red tip 5 pin data to data cable which plugs directly into select Directed brand remote starts, now you may plug this into both the PKFM transponder and the Avital Brain.

I left the Avistart on its default settings so I did no programming. As of now I wrapped all the wires in a neat fashion and tucked them under the left side of the dash and zip-tied the unit and wires securely. So only the PKFM Transponder Override is out.

PKFM Transponder OverrideProgram time

programming the PKFM module is the same routine as programming another PATS key.

1 – Turn the first valid key to “ON” position, until the security light goes OFF. Remove from ignition.
2 – Within 5 seconds, turn the second valid key to “ON” position until security light goes OFF. Remove from ignition.
3 – Start the vehicle with remote starter, the module is programmed. When the LED goes OFF and starts to flash once per second, the module is programmed.

I did my programing a couple of times before it took.

Once programed try the remote start again, this time without any key in or near the ignition. Watch the dash and if the PATS security light on the instrument cluster lights solid and turns off when the remote start boots the ignition, you have a success, the engine will start. If the PATS security light flashes quickly, the PKFM Module is not programed and you need to go through the programing steps again.

If it all works, tuck it all neatly away and replace all panels.

Once the install is complete you will be using it for years to come no matter how long it takes to complete, it will be worth it forever to not start an electrical fire and to have wires dangling when driving. You will appreciate the extra effort in a clean and prideful install for years to come.
